After years of planning Disney vacations for families at every stage, here are the 5 questions every family asks before booking Disney World, answered honestly, no fluff, no upsell.
1. When is the best time to visit for crowds and costs?
Weeks to avoid: Christmas week and Spring Break, when prices spike and crowds swell. Windows that reward you: January after the 1st, early May, and mid-September, for lower crowds and better pricing.
2. How many days should I spend at Disney World?
With four theme parks, two water parks, and a resort experience, the go-to recommendation is 5 to 7 days: one full day per major park plus a buffer day for rest or a revisit.
3. Should I stay on-property or off-property?
Off-property rentals often mean more space and a kitchen, which can save on food. On-property means early theme park entry, free transportation, and a simpler path to dining reservations and packages. Neither is wrong, it depends on your family's priorities and budget.
4. How do I navigate dining and Lightning Lane reservations?
The My Disney Experience app is command central for the whole trip. Dining reservations open on a rolling 60-day window before your trip. Lightning Lane comes in two types: Multi Pass for several attractions booked in advance, and Single Pass for one ride at a time.
5. How much does a Disney World vacation actually cost?
Break your budget into two buckets: must-haves (tickets and hotel) and add-ons (Park Hopper, dining plans, Memory Maker, and other extras). Separating those makes the number feel like a plan instead of a scary total.
