The food is outstanding with a strong regional focus. Regional wine and beer are included at lunch, cocktail hour, and dinner. The twin balcony cabin is one of the most distinctive features in river cruising, giving guests both a French balcony for airflow and a full outside balcony with seating for coffee and evening river watching.

What AmaWaterways Has Announced for 2027
AmaWaterways will introduce AmaRudi on the Danube in April 2027. AmaWaterways has also announced January starts for selected 2027 European City Escapes itineraries and a new Santiago de Compostela land extension for select Douro sailings. Riverside Luxury Cruises is the newest name on this list and one of the most exciting developments in European river cruising. Every cabin on every Riverside ship is a suite. Every guest receives butler service regardless of which fare tier they book. The ship experience — from the bathroom to the bedroom to the dining room — is top-level luxury throughout.
The Four Fare Tiers
Riverside offers four fare tiers, which can be confusing at first but are straightforward once explained:
Full Board without Excursions includes all luxury dining but does not include the premium all-inclusive beverage package or shore excursions.
Full Board with Excursions adds Riverside's shore excursion program to the above.
Premium All-Inclusive without Excursions adds the full premium beverage package to luxury dining but does not include shore excursions.
Premium All-Inclusive with Excursions is the fully loaded option and the most accurate apples-to-apples comparison when evaluating Riverside against AmaWaterways, Scenic, or Tauck on an all-inclusive basis.
One important point: the ship experience does not change based on which tier you book. Every guest still gets the suite, the personal butler, luxury dining, and open seating regardless of fare level. The tiers affect beverages and excursions only.
The Riverside Experience
Melissa sailed the Riverside Mozart in December 2024 on a Christmas Markets cruise from Vienna to Vilshofen, staying in a luxury suite with full butler service. The butler service was exceptional and genuinely attentive. When Melissa and Terry returned from unpacking, their suitcases had been quietly stored to free up cabin space. The butler offered to bring coffee if they saw them walking to get it themselves and greeted them warmly every time they returned to the ship.
The onboard ice cream and snack area is a standout feature that guests consistently love. The indoor spa and pool with heated chairs is the best Melissa has experienced on any European river ship.
Melissa also attended the Debussy inaugural sailing. The staff recognized her from the Mozart sailing the year before the moment she embarked. That level of crew attentiveness and personal recognition is remarkable and speaks to the culture Riverside is building. The Debussy is stunning, with vibrant bold colors that make an immediate impression.
A Note on Riverside as a Growing Brand
Riverside acquired some ships from another river cruise line and is still building its operational seasoning on the rivers. The brand, the ships, and the service are exceptional. As with any newer brand, there may occasionally be moments where the execution does not yet match the promise. Melissa's honest assessment is that Riverside has closed that gap considerably since the Mozart's early sailings and is a strong recommendation for the right traveler.
Riverside in 2027
Riverside has not published a comparable official announcement for a new 2027 ship or a major change to its onboard product. For that reason, this comparison does not add unconfirmed 2027 details. Travelers should compare the specific itinerary and fare tier offered for their dates rather than assume a future sailing includes features that Riverside has not announced.
Who Riverside Is For
Riverside targets the 20 to 40 demographic and has a strong social media presence and modern energy that resonates with younger luxury travelers. It is equally compelling for any traveler who wants full butler service, an all-suite ship, and exceptional dining without needing the brand recognition of a Viking or AmaWaterways. Travelers who want to be seen and to share their experience will find Riverside visually stunning and highly shareable.
Scenic — Ultra-Luxury With the Highest Inclusion Level
Scenic sits at the ultra-luxury tier, technically above AmaWaterways in scale and inclusion level. Everything is included on Scenic: premium spirits, gratuities, butler service in every cabin, and the exclusive Scenic Enrich experiences that give guests access to events and venues other river cruise lines cannot offer.
The Scenic Experience
Melissa inspected the Scenic Jasper in March 2023. The bathroom was very nice and the ship was well appointed. The sitting area carried a darker, richer color scheme — deep wood panels and bold tones that create a dramatic and intimate atmosphere. It did not deliver an immediate wow factor on entry, but the rooms were comfortable and the quality was evident. The aesthetic is best described as rich, dark, and dramatic rather than bright and open.
What Scenic Has Announced for 2027
Scenic's official 2027 Europe collection spans 15 countries and 12 waterways. The line continues to position the collection as truly all-inclusive ultra-luxury, so its established strengths in included premium beverages, gratuities, butler service, and Scenic Enrich experiences remain central to the comparison. Who Scenic Is For
Scenic is best suited for travelers who are 60 and older and who appreciate a darker, more dramatic interior aesthetic. Those who prefer bold, rich colors and a deeply luxurious but reserved atmosphere will feel at home on Scenic. Travelers who prefer bright, open, modern interiors may find the Scenic aesthetic less to their taste.

Tauck has announced five new European river itineraries and two new riverboats for 2027. The ms Saudade will join the Douro fleet, while ms Reverie will sail the Seine.
