In March 2024, I was in Amsterdam for the American Society of Travel Advisors River Cruise Expo, the invitation-only industry event that brings together credentialed travel advisors for firsthand ship inspections across multiple cruise lines and vessels. The Sun Deck follows the standard AmaWaterways configuration with comfortable lounge seating, a walking track, a small pool and whirlpool, and unobstructed views. On a ship this size, the Sun Deck is where the community of a sailing develops between ports, and the AmaLucia's warm character carries up there as naturally as it does through the interior spaces.

AmaWaterways has built a crew culture that is consistent across its fleet, and the AmaLucia reflects that standard. The hallmarks are the same on every AmaWaterways ship: a warm welcome at the gangway, crew members who learn names quickly, and a level of attentiveness that does not require guests to ask. I have inspected and sailed multiple AmaWaterways ships, and that culture does not vary by vessel. What the AmaLucia adds to that foundation is a physical environment that reinforces it.
