We sailed the Holland America Rotterdam in April 2025 on a Caribbean itinerary visiting the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Grand Turk. The waters and scenery at these ports are genuinely breathtaking.
The Rotterdam shares the quiet, reserved atmosphere that Holland America does so well. This is not a loud party ship. It is a place where people have real conversations, linger over a meal, and actually enjoy one another's company.
The Rotterdam is ideal for travelers who want a peaceful, people-centered ocean cruise experience with beautiful Caribbean destinations.

- The walk-up burger and hot dog bar just outside the dining area had the best French fries we had on any sailing
- The veggie burger was good; they were out of veggie dogs on our sailing, so we cannot speak to those

- The Orange Party is a beloved Holland America tradition and guests embrace it fully, dressing in orange throughout the day
- The food overall was very good, though we found the Nieuw Statendam's food slightly more impressive in comparison

The food was very good, but we found the Nieuw Statendam's dining slightly more impressive in direct comparison.
Accommodations
Our Cabin: Ocean View Balcony
We stayed in an Ocean View Balcony on the Rotterdam, which gave us a comfortable base and direct outdoor access for the Caribbean scenery.
If cabanas are available for your sailing, we highly recommend booking one. The cabana area offers one of the best views on the ship and is worth budgeting for alongside your cabin choice.
Cuisine
Dining on Rotterdam
The food overall was very good. Just outside the dining area is a walk-up burger and hot dog bar with the best French fries we had on any sailing. The veggie burger was good; they were out of veggie dogs on our sailing, so we cannot speak to those.
Afternoon tea time on the Rotterdam is a genuine treat, and we would strongly recommend it for anyone who enjoys that experience.
In direct comparison to the Nieuw Statendam, which we also sailed, we found the Nieuw Statendam's food slightly more impressive.
