Park Schedules
Yes. Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and Universal Studios Hollywood operate 365 days a year. Volcano Bay, Universal Orlando's water theme park, is generally open year-round but closes on select dates during the cooler winter months and for cold-weather days. Daily opening and closing times vary by season and by day of week: off-season weekdays often run roughly 9 AM to 7 PM or 8 PM, while summer and holiday periods extend to 10 PM or later. Universal publishes its official park hours calendar about one to two months in advance.
One scheduling detail that surprises many families: on Halloween Horror Nights event evenings, the host park closes early to daytime guests. A fall trip built around daytime touring at Universal Studios Florida or Universal Studios Hollywood should account for those shortened hours.
January through early February
Universal's Christian music festival, Rock the Universe, has typically taken place on select nights in late January or early February at Universal Studios Florida, with separate event admission. Outside the event nights, late January into early February is historically one of the lightest crowd windows of the year, with some of the lowest date-based ticket prices.
February through April
Universal Orlando's Mardi Gras celebration typically runs daily from early February into April at Universal Studios Florida and is included with regular park admission. According to Universal, the event features a nightly parade, concerts on select nights, and New Orleans-inspired food booths. Weekends during Mardi Gras draw heavier crowds than weekdays.
March and April
School breaks across the US and abroad stack from early March through mid-April, making this one of Universal Orlando's busiest stretches. Express Pass prices and hotel rates typically peak during these weeks. Families traveling then benefit most from early park admission and advance Express Pass planning.
Late May through August
Summer brings the longest park operating hours of the year, with all four Universal Orlando parks, including Volcano Bay, running full schedules. It is also peak family travel season, so crowds and date-based pricing stay high. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in Central Florida, and most guests find mornings the most productive touring time.
Late August through early November
Halloween Horror Nights typically runs select nights from late August through early November at Universal Studios Florida. According to Universal, it is a separately ticketed, after-hours event with haunted houses and scare zones, and it is marketed toward guests 13 and older. On event nights, Universal Studios Florida closes early to daytime guests, which shortens the regular park day at that park.
November and December
Universal's holiday celebration typically runs from late November through early January and is included with regular admission. Per Universal's announcements, highlights include Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure, the Universal Holiday Parade featuring Macy's at Universal Studios Florida, and seasonal entertainment across the resort. The weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas through New Year's Day are among the busiest and highest-priced of the year.
November through March (select dates)
Volcano Bay, Universal's water theme park, is generally open year-round but closes on select dates during cooler winter months, and may close for weather on cold days. Universal posts operating calendars by date, so water park days in November through February should be confirmed close to travel.
January through March
Universal Studios Hollywood typically celebrates Lunar New Year in late January or February with themed decor, characters, and food offerings, included with regular admission. Winter weekdays outside holidays are historically among the lightest crowd periods of the year at the park.

Spring break weeks bring the heaviest crowds of the spring, particularly on weekends. Early entry through advance ticket purchase, where offered, and arrival before park opening help on busy days.
June through August
Summer is peak season at Universal Studios Hollywood, with extended hours and elevated crowds. According to Universal, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD uses a virtual line or timed entry at times of high demand, so guests are encouraged to check the official app on their visit date.
September through early November
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood typically runs select nights from early September through early November as a separately ticketed evening event. On event nights, daytime park hours are shortened, which affects single-day itineraries during the fall.
Late November through early January
Universal Studios Hollywood's holiday celebration typically includes Grinchmas in Universal Plaza and seasonal decor throughout the park, included with admission. Christmas week through New Year's Day is the park's busiest period of the year.
Universal's date-based pricing means ticket, Express Pass, and hotel rates follow demand. These patterns reflect historical trends rather than guarantees, and Universal typically sees its lightest crowds when school is in session.
