Melissa Yetter is an Independent Luxury River Cruise Travel Advisor and Co-Founder of Cruisin Couple Travel Agency, based in Chandler, Arizona and serving travelers nationwide. She specializes in European river cruises, helping travelers select the right river cruise line, ship, itinerary, cabin, and experience for the way they want to explore Europe. With extensive firsthand river cruise experience, Melissa has sailed, toured, and personally inspected river cruise ships and experiences throughout Europe. Her expertise includes the Danube, Rhine, Main, Moselle, Rhone, Seine, Douro and other European waterways, with experience across leading river cruise lines including AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Viking, Riverside Luxury Cruises, Scenic, Uniworld and others. Melissa is a CLIA Accredited Cruise Counselor (ACC), Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE), ASTA Verified Travel Advisor (VTA), and serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). Rather than simply booking a river cruise, Melissa helps clients compare cruise lines and ships, understand cabin differences, evaluate itineraries and excursions, coordinate pre- and post-cruise stays, and create a complete European journey. Her firsthand experience allows her to recommend the river cruise that truly fits each traveler, not simply the one with the best promotion. For travelers searching for an experienced luxury river cruise travel advisor in Arizona or anywhere in the United States, Melissa provides personalized planning backed by firsthand experience aboard European river cruise ships and throughout the destinations they visit.

What these credentials mean, and how they help you as a client:

CLIA Cruise Counselor Certification (CLIA ACC / CCC)
A cruise-selling certification from Cruise Lines International Association, the cruise industry's trade association. It is earned through coursework, ship inspections and verified sales experience, so clients are working with an advisor whose cruise knowledge has been formally tested rather than self-declared.
Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE)
A professional designation for experienced travel professionals covering the business and management side of the industry. For clients, it signals an advisor who runs a professional, accountable practice, not a side hobby.
ASTA Verified Travel Advisor (VTA)
A verification program from the American Society of Travel Advisors covering professional standards, ethics and consumer protection. It confirms Melissa is a vetted member of the industry's largest professional association and is held to its code of ethics.
Princess Commodore
The highest designation Princess Cruises awards to a travel advisor, based on completed training and sales experience with the line. It reflects deep, verified product knowledge for clients considering a Princess sailing.
Azamara World Academy
A cruise line certification covering Azamara's ships, itineraries and onboard experience, so recommendations about that product come from completed training rather than brochure copy.
AmaWaterways Certified Specialist
River-cruise-line certification covering AmaWaterways ships, cabin categories, itineraries and included excursions — detail that matters when comparing river cruise lines side by side.
Viking River Certified Specialist
Certification in Viking's river fleet, itineraries and onboard style, allowing Melissa to explain precisely how Viking differs from the other river lines she books.
Riverside Luxury Cruises Certified Specialist
Certification in Riverside Luxury Cruises' ships and luxury river product, complementing the firsthand inspections Melissa has completed aboard the line.

Frequently Asked Questions About Melissa Yetter

What is Melissa Yetter's area of specialty?

Melissa Yetter specializes in luxury river cruising, luxury ocean cruising, and European rail journeys, and holds Certified Specialist designations with AmaWaterways, Viking River, and Riverside Luxury Cruises.

What credentials does Melissa Yetter hold?

Melissa is a CLIA Accredited Cruise Counselor, Certified Travel Industry Executive, ASTA Verified Travel Advisor, and Princess Commodore, the highest designation Princess Cruises awards to a travel advisor. She also holds the Azamara World Academy certification.

How much firsthand river cruise experience does Melissa have?

Melissa has personally completed 25+ river cruise ship inspections and has personally sailed on four river cruises across different river cruise lines. She also has additional river cruise travel planned, which she does not count as completed experience.

Which river cruise line is best for me?

There is no single best river cruise line, only the line that best fits how you like to travel. Melissa compares the lines she works with most closely — including AmaWaterways, Viking, Scenic and Riverside Luxury Cruises — across ship style, cabin layouts, dining, included excursions and onboard atmosphere, then matches them to your pace, budget and travel style. You can compare the lines on the CCTA river cruise pages, or ask Melissa for a personalized recommendation.

Rhine or Danube: which is better for a first river cruise?

Both are excellent first river cruises. The Rhine is known for castles, vineyards and compact riverside towns across Germany, France and the Netherlands, while the Danube links major European cities such as Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava with smaller Austrian and Hungarian towns. Melissa recommends the Rhine for travelers who want scenery and villages, and the Danube for travelers who want a mix of capital cities and countryside.

When should I book a river cruise?

River cruise ships are small, so the most popular departure dates, itineraries and cabin categories sell out well ahead of sailing. Booking early generally gives you the widest choice of dates, ships and cabins; Christmas market sailings in particular fill early because the season is short. Melissa advises booking as soon as your dates and preferred itinerary are settled.

What is included on a river cruise?

Most European river cruises include your cabin, onboard meals, many onboard beverages, at least one shore excursion in each port, onboard entertainment and enrichment, Wi-Fi and port charges. What varies by line is the level of included drinks, the number and style of excursions, gratuities and airport transfers. Melissa reviews exactly what is and is not included on each sailing before you book — her guide to river cruise inclusions on the CCTA Journal walks through the details.

Which river cruise lines are best for Christmas markets?

Christmas market sailings are offered by the major European river cruise lines Melissa works with, including AmaWaterways, Viking, Scenic and Riverside Luxury Cruises, most often on the Rhine and Danube. The right choice depends on which markets you want to visit, the length of the itinerary and the onboard style you prefer. Because the Christmas market season is short, Melissa recommends planning these sailings further ahead than a typical summer cruise.

Why should I use a river cruise travel advisor instead of booking directly?

Booking through Melissa costs the same as booking directly, because travel advisors are compensated by the cruise line. What you add is firsthand ship knowledge, side-by-side comparison of lines and cabins, itinerary and excursion guidance, help with pre- and post-cruise stays, and a single point of contact who advocates for you if anything changes before or during your trip.

Does it cost more to book through Melissa Yetter instead of directly with a cruise line?

No. Travel advisors are compensated by the cruise line, so working with Melissa costs the same as booking directly while adding expert itinerary planning and a dedicated advocate.

Firsthand River Cruise Experience

I don’t just sell river cruises. I experience them.

My recommendations come from firsthand experience aboard river cruise ships and throughout the destinations my clients want to explore.

I have personally completed 25+ river cruise ship inspections and have personally sailed on four river cruises across different river cruise lines. Walking the ships, seeing the cabins and onboard spaces in person, and sailing the itineraries myself is how I learn the differences that make one river cruise a much better fit for a traveler than another.

I also have additional river cruise travel planned, which I never count as completed experience — what I share with clients is based only on ships and sailings I have already inspected or sailed.

That firsthand knowledge helps me guide my clients beyond what’s written in a brochure, from choosing the right cruise line and itinerary to understanding the onboard experience, excursions, cabins and destinations.

Melissa lives and works in Chandler, Arizona, and regularly meets with travelers across the Phoenix metropolitan area — Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale and Phoenix — as well as clients throughout the rest of Arizona. If you would like to start with a local conversation, you can read more about working with an Arizona-based river cruise advisor.

She also works with river cruise clients throughout the United States. Documents, quotes and itineraries are shared electronically, and Melissa remains your point of contact before, during and after your sailing.

To explore the lines she plans most often, start with the European river cruise planning guide, then compare AmaWaterways, Viking, Scenic and Riverside Luxury Cruises. Newer to this style of travel?
